Is it OK for men to wear unitards to yoga class?

Question by padmasanadave: Is it OK for men to wear unitards to yoga class?
I have been doing yoga for about a year, and I am getting into enough that I want to eliminate little distractions that detract from my practice. For instance, when I do supported bridge, I hate the way my shirt bunches up between me and the block. And I hate the way my shirt slips down when I do headstand. I am going to buy a unitard to fix these problems. I am secure with my self-image, and I will freely wear whatever I want in the privacy of my own home. I really don’t care what others think of me either, but I don’t want to look like such a freakazoid that people cannot relate to me. Would it be OK to wear my unitard to yoga class?

I personally wouldn’t have a problem with it.

It’s my understanding that tight clothes, such as cycling tights, leotards or unitards are encouraged for yoga, so I don’t think you’ll elicit much negative attention.

You may want to ask your instructor what he or she thinks of it. If they see no problem with it, neither should others. Go for it, wear what you like.

It’s okay for men to wear unitards whenever.

You might get a few stares from people when they first see it if you wear it outside of your own home, but after that no one will really notice or care. To me, it would just be like neon hair or a pierced eyebrow, interesting at first, but then it just blends in with everything else. Who knows? Maybe other people will start wearing them…
